Does a teenager can become a famous model? Yes, she did successfully when she was 16 years old and she is becoming one of the most coveted spots in fashion. Her name is Cameron Russell.

In October 2012, Russell gave a presentation entitled “Looks aren’t Everything. Believe me, I’m a Model” at TEDx Mid-Atlantic, which has been viewed over a million times.  How does she define her success?

“The real way that I became a model is that I won a genetic lottery, and I am the recipient of a legacy. What do I mean by legacy? Well, for the past few centuries we have defined beauty not just as health and youth and symmetry that we’re biologically programmed to admire, but also as tall, slender figures, and femininity and white skin. And this is a legacy that was built for me, and it’s a legacy that I’ve been cashing in on.”

Should young girls aspire to be a model? The answers for Russell is “shouldn’t”! Most people cannot believe this advice coming from one of the most successful models. But, Russell has her own explanation:

“If a 16-year-old had my opportunity, I would say, ‘Take it, it’s fantastic; it pays for university, you will get to travel, you will have access to the media,'” she said. “But it is not a career over which you have any control. Any day they can decide they don’t like you anymore, so you really should have something else that you are good at and passionate about.”

Cameron Russell has defined a new standard for beauty and inspired lots of people being true of themself. Too many people focus on their looks or body shape but they ignore the real self who is more confident and pretty as well. Nobody is perfect, the perfect one is just yourself.

A New Status: UN Women Goodwill Ambassador

The UN Women campaign HeForShe expresses another aspects of Emma. As UN Women Goodwill Ambassador in July 2014, she has a speech about gender equal rights and calls on men to advocate gender equality. Her presentation has focus on gender stereotypes and the meaning of feminism. At the end of her speech, she said, “We are struggling for a uniting word but the good news is we have a uniting movement. It is called HeForShe.”

It is important for governments to open a new phase when they connected with people via social media. What is more, there is no doubt that everyone is not a target audience for nonprofit organization. It is difficult to effectively or efficiently reach a wide range of audience. Therefore, nonprofit organizations pay more attention on promoting an event, recruiting multiple volunteers who they want to reach and connecting with other relevant organizations to expand their nonprofit career. As for businesses, not only focus on getting feedback from customers, but also focus on the activity of competitors. More importantly, branding your staff is a new way to promote your business and enhance your core competitiveness.

According to the different social platform presenting on the diagram, governments, nonprofit organization and businesses need to choose the fittest social network for them because every social tool has their own features. For instance, there are 901 million users using Facebook; as a result, Facebook is the first choice of governments, nonprofit organization and businesses because of its wide range of audience. Moreover, owing to the requirement of occupation, employees are encouraged to make their own profile via LinkedIn and Google+. In addition, if you launch an event and post it on Pinterest that can show the professional images and can advocate more volunteers to join in.

From my perspective, the target audience for government is citizen even people around the world. As for nonprofit organizations, they can recruit multiple volunteers. Customers and competitors are the target audience for businesses. Generally, identifying a target audience is the premise and the key to help you achieve your goals. Target audience can specific to individuals, but social strategy is making the general plan and teaching what should we do.

There are two aspects including positive and negative influence on social network. On the one hand, social network has a deep impact on our lives. It makes the society more transparent and disseminates the information more rapidly. Individual’s thoughts, feelings, even actions are affected easily by other people on social media. For instance, individual may remember one word said by a celebrity or obey the order from a person who has charisma. Moreover, social network also build on passions and interests. People who have the same hobby or same avocation will share the information about the topic so that people can find their congener directly. Therefore, social network has positive impact on individuals because people can gain some positive information.

On the other hand, social network also has negative influence on individual. People may affect by some strangers on the social network easily. Because of anonymity, people can express any view (both positive and negative) without responsibility on social network. They don’t consider about other’s feelings even the words are harsh opinions. What is more, information on the network cannot be filtered or purified; as a result, we cannot avoid the criminal or violence news on social network. Consequently, social network has disadvantage as well.

Strategy and tactics: Plan Your Work or Work Your Plan

When asked about setting up a goal or making a plan for business, you may first consider about the strategy and tactics. The majority of people believe that strategy and tactics can interchange, but other people regard those two aspects as different concept. Does the meaning of strategy and tactics are the same? My answer should be not. Actually, a strategy is a general plan or set of plans intended to achieve a goal, especially over a long period. However, tactics are the methods that you choose to use in order to achieve what you want in a particular situation and make more specific plan during your action.

Strategy is general planning

Strategy is the general plan when we decided to set up a goal on our own business. Just like making a cake. According to your plan, we should know which type or shape of cake you want to make, what is your primary goal (becoming a well known brand in Canada) or additional goal (setting up more branch all over the world) in the future. So, strategy needs to organizes and control whole things that are realizable and achievable.

Tactics are specific doing

Tactics are the detail and specific action when we implement the general plan. In fact, tactics are teaching you how to accomplish a plan or using which method to achieving the goal. Tactics are the sugar, cream, egg, flour and jam that is the most significant component during making a cake. Exactly as a company, we should make sure how can we achieve the goal. To make sure what products should we sell, which market has the value to develop, who may be the current and prospective customers, which process should schedule the press releases to broadcast your advertisement and so on. Therefore, tactics are teaching us how to implement the practical action.

Combine strategy and tactics
Compared to strategy, tactics more focus on action and usually are short time smaller scale; moreover, tactics are telling you “How” to accomplish a plan specifically and every work you did in order to finish your plan. However, strategy needs to take a long period and large scale, more importantly, teaching you “why” should make the plan for your work and concentrate on planning.

It is a great method to combine strategy and tactics in work. If you have strategy but no tactics, then you just have the thought but no action. If you have tactics without strategy, you can do your work but no direction and purpose. For instance, Google+, strategy: Google+ has aimed to establish a new social platform called “Social Layer” and integrated Google’s other online products as the basis of the complete social network. Tactics: Google+ has offered different components to enhance the function of new social network tools such as user profile, circle, Google+ page, stream, hangouts, +1 button, communities and so on. Google+ has offered a social platform that enable stranger or friend getting closer and communicating more frequently.

Overall, strategy is “plan for work” but tactics are “work for plan”. I do think no matter what company or business you have, you should combine those two aspects because “strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.”
